Multimedia competition: "Discover the beauty of Taiwan"

【Hosting Organization】: 

Federation of Chinese Traders Alumni Greater Houston (FCTAGH)

【Objectives】: 

Purpose for this competition is to encourage students to learn Chinese language And give them opportunities to apply their learning about Taiwan in Chinese language expression –oral and written, also for students to show & tell their talents in making multimedia videos.

This year is the 41th anniversary of the Taiwan-US Relations Act, which is a highlight of the friendly relationship between Taiwan and the United States. With that, we would like to extend the competition to include all students who study Chinese language locally in Houston and give them opportunities to learn and love Taiwan.

【Subject】: 

Discover the beauty of Taiwan

【Eligibility】: 

Students in age of 12 to 18, who have studied Chinese language and are willing to explore Taiwan.

【Registration】: 

(1). Please include your English name and Chinese name (if any), birthday, grade level, cell phone#, address, email address, school (both regular and Chinese language schools), and contact information.

(2). Please write down ideas on how you develop the video for the competition.

(3). Send the video link along with the above info to the hosting organization’s recipient - Alice Wen, by email before 8/31 for initial review: alice.wen88@gmail.com.

(4). After the recipient confirms that the video meets the requirements, the Video can then be publicized by the contestant on the YouTube.com. The video will also need to be sent to the recipient’s email .

(5). Videos will not be returned. Contestants are requested to reserve their own files.

【Competition】: 

Contestants can use photos and/or movie clips to make into a video, together with music, his/her own Chinese narratives and/or Chinese subtitles. Once the video is complete, upload it to YouTube.com and send in the video by 8/31 to sign up for the contest.

Contestants are divided into two groups:

• Junior high school (6th to 8th grade) , and

• High school (9th to 12th grade).

Length of the video:

• 2 to 2.5 minutes for the junior high group;

• 3 to 5 minutes for the high school group.

【Criteria】: 

50% of the score is based on the number of the “Likes” received by each video on Youtube by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, 9/30/2020. The other 50% is based on the scores by judges that the hosting organization invites.

The results cannot be contested. Note: The hosting organization reserves the right to issue awards depending on the number of contestants and the quality of results. Some groups might not have any or all winners while other awards might be issued depending on the situations of competition.

【Results】: 

By 10/6/2020, results will be announced in the local newspapers and winners will be notified by email.

【Awards】: 

Each group might have one winner, one 2nd place and one 3rd place.

High school group:

1st Place: Winner certificate and scholarship of $300

2nd Place: 2nd Place certificate and scholarship of $200

3rd Place: 3rd Place certificate and scholarship of $100

Junior high school group:

1st Place: Winner certificate and scholarship of $200

2nd Place: 2nd Place certificate and scholarship of $100

3rd Place: 3rd Place certificate and scholarship of $75

All winners’ names will be published on newspapers and on the 109th National Day Special Edition. Also, winners will be invited to the Awards Ceremony where the hosting organization will present scholarships and certificates to winners on stage at the National Day Celebration Tea Reception and Awards Ceremony, at 10:30am-11:30am on Saturday, 10/10/2020 @Culture Center of TECO located at 10303 Westoffice Dr., Houston, TX 77042. All winners are encouraged to be present at the Awards Ceremony.

Winner’s video of each group will be shown at the Awards Ceremony.
